PIONEERS ASIA

Context:
Supporting Japanese media company Nikkei Inc. in its ambition to accelerate early-stage startup investment in a traditionally risk-averse market became the mandate to lead Pioneers’ first international expansion to a new continent.
The opportunity combined market entry, venture building and cross-cultural brand translation - under significant time pressure.

Mandate:
Within a tight 10-month timeline, the responsibility covered securing funding, establishing a cross-continental joint venture, building a new local team from scratch and ensuring brand relevance across cultures - while delivering a three-day future tech festival within time and budget.
The challenge was to build structure where none existed, and momentum where uncertainty dominated.

Build:
The full project roadmap was designed and KPIs defined in alignment with Nikkei. During early acquisition, 50% of total sales were secured, laying the financial foundation for the initiative.
A legal joint venture entity was established, and 21 professionals were hired and trained to form a high-performing local team built from zero. Commercial strategy - including sponsorship design, partner acquisition and stakeholder alignment - was structured and executed across the full lifecycle.
Clear prioritisation and disciplined governance ensured delivery despite compressed setup phases and the absence of blueprints.

Shift:
Pioneers Asia launched successfully as a three-day innovation conference in Japan, bringing together 1,500+ entrepreneurs, investors, corporates and media representatives from across Europe and Asia.
With 600+ curated business meetings, 150 selected startups and a livestream reaching 40,000+ viewers, the platform positioned itself as a visible catalyst within Japan’s evolving startup ecosystem.
The project demonstrated the ability to build and scale cross-cultural innovation platforms under high-pressure market-entry conditions.
